| Program Description | This program will familiarize your students with the equipment and supplies that Lewis and Clark took on their historic journey. Using inquiry learning, students will interact with Museum Education staff to explore the technology of the time by examining specific equipment and supplies taken by the Corps of Discovery 200 years ago. Topics will include medicine, scientific instruments, Indian trading goods, camping equipment, arms and accessories, and clothing. | |

1. Introduction 2. Show student where we are located in relation to the Expedition of Lewis and Clark. 3. Using presentation students will brainstorm what they would take with them on a trip across the country. 4. Using pictures, artifacts, and video presentations students will learn about what Lewis and Clark took with them on their expedition 200 years ago. 5. Conclusion |

The students will be able to: Describe the Cargo of Lewis and Clark. To tell why certain items were selected for the expedition. Describe the technology of the 1804. Explain 3 experimental items that were taken by Lewis and Clark. Analyze the challenges of packing for the expedition. |

The student understands the international background and consequences of the Louisiana Purchase, the War of 1812, and the Monroe Doctrine. The student engages in historical analysis and interpretation. Obtain historical data from a variety of sources, including: library and museum collections, historic sites, historical photos, journals, diaries, eyewitness accounts, newspapers, and the like; documentary films; and so on.
